Florida Beach Portrait Guide

It gets HOT in Florida during the summer! I’m talking mid 90’s (35°c) during the day and 80’s (30°c) in the evening. Not only that, the humidity is extreme. Have you ever heard the saying, “It’s not the heat, it’s the humidty?” Well it’s wrong – it’s BOTH.

If you are not from Florida or one of the other southern states with a similar climate, just keep in mind you will be hot and sweaty for most of the time you spend outdoors during the summer!

Finally, summer is also tourist season here in Florida. That means busy beaches…

Despite all of the above, summer is one of our busiest times of year and you can still have memorable, beautiful, perfect Florida Beach Photographer Session. But from about mid-June through the end of September, expect very hot and humid weather, and plan accordingly – little things like hats, sunscreen, shade and ice water go a long way!

Another factor in planning for your Florida Beach Photographer is the Atlantic Hurricane Season, which technically runs from June 1^st through November 30^th. However, as the chart below shows, the most active period of hurricane season for Florida is Mid-August through Mid-October:

Not coincidentally, those are also some of the hottest months of the year, and also tend to be Florida’s rainy season, with daily afternoon thunderstorms a fairly regular occurrence.

So…That leaves Mid-October through Mid-June as the best time of year to plan your Florida Beach Family Portraits. Hey, 8 out of 12 ain’t bad!

One final note on the time of year: Believe it or not, it can get quite cold in Florida at any point from about Mid-November through Mid-February, with overnight temperatures sometimes nearing freezing, and daytime temperatures in the 50’s (12°c) and 60’s (18°c). However, it can also be in the 80’s (30°c) on any given day! The point is, if you want to guarantee warm weather (a relative term, I know) plan around this period as well.

Please keep in mind: Chances are you will have beautiful sunny weather at any time of year, and you can also get rained out at just about any time of year. But the above considerations will greatly improve your chances of having great weather for your perfect Florida Beach Family Portraits!
